If high gas prices are blamed on Iranian threats, I don't understand.
The US has plenty of oil in reserve so why aren't we using it to keep
the prices at an affordable level for everyone? If enough American
consumers refused to show up for work, maybe things would change.

Hmm. How much is "plenty"? Yes, there are tar sands, deep water extraction
and so forth. But that isn't oil as we know it. Both are much less
efficient (you have to put much more energy in to get energy out), and both
cost much more to produce - so that's not likely to bring any prices down.
I don't think there's any getting out of it; the world can't keep getting
this much oil any longer.
